Shadow of Mordor

Shadow of Mordor is one of my top games that has released in the past year. I'm not a super crazy fan of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. But I do enjoy the lore behind the series, and this game has a lot of little things that are part of the lore.

Shadow of Mordor also has a bigger reason for holding a dear spot in my heart, the Nemesis System. The Nemesis System is basically a system that procedurally generates most of the major enemies. It changes things like their name, strengths and weaknesses, and even the way their armor looks. Procedurally generating things is basically allowing the computer to create it based on a set of instructions, or algorithm. While using this has started to become big in some Indie games, it hasn't seen as much use in the AAA game scene. It definitely hasn't been used in a RPG before now.

The addition of the Nemesis System allows a player to play through the game multiple times and have wildly different experiences every time. One play through you may hunt down each of these enemies one at a time, another play through you might try doing this and run into four or five of them. I think if more games start adding a system similar to this, we might see a lot more repeatable games instead of games that you beat once and move on from.
